Kevin Capel · 4th Degree Black Belt under Roger Gracie · King's Commendation recipient
The Roger Gracie Academy in Aylesbury. Where technique meets lineage, and lineage meets purpose.
The Academy
RGA Bucks runs classes for complete beginners through to seasoned competitors. The standard of instruction does not change based on where you are in your journey.
Beginners Jiu Jitsu. Advanced Jiu Jitsu. NoGi. Every class carries the same expectation — show up, work hard, improve.
The Lineage
Kev holds a 4th Degree Black Belt awarded directly under Roger Gracie — widely regarded as the greatest BJJ competitor in the history of the sport. A direct descendant of the family that created Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
That lineage is not a credential on a wall. It shapes every class, every technique, every standard held at RGA Bucks. What you learn here traces directly back to where the art began.

Head Coach
Kev began his Jiu Jitsu journey under Roger Gracie, earning his black belt through years of competition and study at the highest level. In 2014 he became IBJJF European Black Belt Champion at Masters level — one of the most competitive divisions in the sport.
His proximity to RAF Halton brought military personnel to train at the academy. What began as a connection became a mission — developing a BJJ programme across the British Armed Forces that was formally recognised as an official military sport in 2015, allowing the Army, RAF and Navy to train and compete under sport duty.
For that work, Kev was awarded a King's Commendation — a formal recognition from the Crown for service of exceptional value.
King's Commendation
Military personnel training at the academy led Kev to develop a full BJJ programme for the British Armed Forces. Working alongside Andy Robertson — both black belts under the Gracie lineage — he built the case, submitted the paperwork, and in 2015 saw Brazilian Jiu Jitsu formally recognised as an official sport within the British military.
The Army, RAF and Navy could now train and compete in BJJ under sport duty. A sport taken from a gym in Aylesbury into the institutions of British defence.
