Kids & Families — RGA Bucks | Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Aylesbury

Most Kids Quit When It Gets Hard.
Jiu Jitsu Teaches Them Not To.

There is no hiding on the mat. You cannot bluff your way through a roll. You either know the technique or you don't, and the only way to close that gap is to come back and try again.

That lesson — that difficulty is a process, not a verdict — is the thing most children never properly learn. Jiu Jitsu teaches it better than anything else we have found.

Your child will get tapped. They will tap people. They will learn that both are part of the same journey.

Beyond the Belt.

01
Confidence Without Arrogance
Children who train Jiu Jitsu know they can handle themselves. That knowledge changes the way they carry themselves — not aggressively, but quietly and without anxiety. Bullying becomes far less of a problem when a child is genuinely comfortable in their own skin.
02
Discipline That Sticks
The mat has rules. You respect your partner. You listen when you're being taught. You bow in and bow out. These are not arbitrary habits — they are the structure that makes learning possible, and children who train carry that structure into school and into life.
03
Problem Solving Under Pressure
Every roll is a live puzzle. Your partner is trying to submit you. You need to think, adapt and stay calm at the same time. Children who train regularly become genuinely better at managing pressure — in sport, in exams, in situations where other kids freeze.
04
Physical Literacy
Jiu Jitsu builds body awareness, coordination, strength and flexibility in a way that team sports rarely do. Children learn how their body moves, how to control it, and how to use it effectively. These are physical skills that transfer to everything else they do.
05
The Ability to Lose Well
Getting tapped is part of training. Nobody wins every roll. Children learn early that losing is information — it tells you what to work on next. That relationship with failure, normalised from a young age, is one of the most valuable things a child can develop.
06
A Room They Belong To
The academy becomes their place. The coaches know their name. The other kids become training partners and then friends. For many children, this is the first environment outside school where they feel genuinely part of something — and where they are judged purely on effort.

Built for Every Age.
Every Stage.

Classes are split by age and ability so your child trains with peers at a similar stage. No child is thrown in with teenagers on their first session.

Questions We Get Asked.

My child has never done any martial arts. Is that a problem?
No. The beginner classes start from zero. Every child in that room was a beginner once — including the coaches. Your child will be shown exactly what to do, step by step, and nobody will be impatient with them for not knowing something they have never been taught.
Is it safe? I'm worried about injuries.
Jiu Jitsu is a contact sport, and there is always some inherent risk — the same as football, gymnastics or rugby. The kids classes at RGA Bucks are structured and closely supervised. Children are paired appropriately and coaches control the intensity of sparring. Injuries happen occasionally, as in any sport. Serious injuries are rare.
What does my child need to wear?
For the first session — comfortable clothes, a t-shirt and shorts or joggers. No gi required to start. Once your child is training regularly, a gi (the traditional Jiu Jitsu uniform) will be recommended. We can advise on where to get one and what to look for.
My child is quite shy. Will they struggle?
Shy children often do exceptionally well in Jiu Jitsu. The structure of the class means they always know what they are supposed to be doing. They are not required to perform or speak in front of a group. Progress is measured individually, not against others. Many of our quietest students have become some of our most confident.
How quickly will I see a difference?
Most parents notice a change in demeanour within the first few weeks — a bit more settled, a bit more focused, a bit more willing to try difficult things. The physical improvements come quickly too. The deeper changes in confidence and resilience take longer, but they are more durable than almost anything else you can give a child at this age.
What's the first class actually like?
They arrive, they get on the mat, they learn a couple of basic movements and do some light partner work. Nobody expects them to know anything. The coaches introduce themselves and keep an eye on how they're getting on. Most children leave their first class wanting to come back. That is the only thing that matters on day one.

We Take The Kids Programme As Seriously As The Adults.

The children's classes at RGA Bucks are not a babysitting service. They are not a place to burn energy for an hour before dinner. They are a proper training environment with proper coaching — just calibrated for where children are in their development.

We hold a high standard because children respond to high standards. They rise to meet what is expected of them. When you set the bar low, they clear it and stop. When you set it at the right height and give them the tools to reach it, they surprise you.

The belt is not the point. Who they become on the way to it is.
